Denyse grew up in the northern part of Rwanda (Burera District) with her mother, father, and four siblings. She is the second oldest child in her family. She graduated from Gashora Girls Science & Technology Academy, a upper- secondary school in Rwanda, in 2013 at the top one-third of her class.
In 2014, Denyse was introduced to KCF by a retired teacher from the United States who had taken Denyse under her wing during high school, and wanted to support her in getting a college degree. Denyse enrolled at the University of Rwanda in economics, performing at the top of her class.
In 2017, KCF brought Denyse to the United States during her summer school break to expand her horizons and allow her to connect more directly with her sponsor, who was also her host while she was in the States. Denyse graduated, class of 2018, in applied statistics with the highest grades for women in her class.
Quotes from Denyse herself:
“Thank you so much for bringing me to the USA. There is nothing I can give you but God has everything you need and I pray that God bless you in everything you do.”
“The school fees KCF paid for me gave me the opportunity to study and perform well.”
“After going to the USA my mind became open to see different cultures, different people with open minds, and the great development of the USA.”
